How to put an online video in PowerPoint
Updated 28 October 2026 · 4-minute read
You've got the perfect clip for your presentation. You paste the link into PowerPoint, and in the meeting room the Wi-Fi drops, or the site loads an ad first. The fix: save the video and embed the file.
Step 1: Save the video
Play the video on its page, click the Vidtuck icon, and hit Download. For streamed videos, pick a quality: 1080p for big screens, 720p if file size matters.
Step 2: Make sure it's an MP4
PowerPoint plays MP4 files with H.264 video and AAC audio most reliably. If your file ended up as .ts or .webm, convert it first: TS to MP4 · WebM to MP4.
Step 3: Embed it
- In PowerPoint, go to Insert → Video → This Device (on Mac: Insert → Video → Movie from File).
- Pick your MP4. It's now part of the presentation file and plays with no internet.
- Use Playback → Trim Video to show just the part you need.
Tips
- Test on the actual presentation laptop before the meeting.
- Mind the file size: embedded videos make the deck bigger. Trim, or save at 720p.
- Rights: showing a clip internally is different from publishing it. For public or commercial decks, use your own footage or properly licensed video. (The rules, simply.)
