Looking for a Video Downloader Plus alternative?
Updated 28 October 2026 · 4-minute read
First, a heads-up: several different, unrelated extensions in the Chrome Web Store are called “Video Downloader Plus”. They come from different developers and work differently, so check the developer name and listing before trusting any review you read, including this page.
What Video Downloader Plus does well
- Many quality options: the best-known listing advertises HD, 2K and 4K downloads where a site offers them.
- Extras: some versions add Chromecast casting or a “save for later” library tied to an account.
What Vidtuck does
- One click for files and streams. Direct MP4, WebM and audio files download straight away; HLS streams (
.m3u8) get captured in the quality you pick and assembled into one playable file. - Long videos without memory trouble. Stream captures are written to disk as they download, so a two-hour recording uses the same memory as a two-minute clip.
- Encrypted HLS handled. Streams protected with standard AES-128 transport encryption (the key is served to every viewer's player) are decrypted and saved like any other.
- Collects nothing. No account, no analytics, no Vidtuck servers. Everything runs in your browser.
- Honest limits. No DRM content (Netflix and similar) and no YouTube. DASH (
.mpd) streams are detected but not downloadable yet.
Where Vidtuck is different
- One developer, one name, one product. Vidtuck has a real website, a plain privacy policy and a single listing.
- No account, ever. Nothing to sign up for and nothing stored about you.
- Streams handled properly: HLS captures in your chosen quality, assembled into one file and written to disk as they download.
When Video Downloader Plus is the better pick
